Marine Corps League Good Citizen Award – 2014

The Staten Island Detachment of the Marine Corps League will be holding their next Eagle Scout service on march 30th (Sunday) at the detachment.

We missed some of the scouts due to weather and illness. Any Eagle Scout from 2013 that we missed receiving the Good Citizen Award from the League is welcome to join in at the detachment with Scouts on that date. All we need to know is their full names and, of course all parents are welcome as are leaders and small numbers of scouts.

Contact Sandy Shap at 347-453-1732 or sandyman2004@yahoo.com for more information.

Address is 46 Ontario Avenue (Marine Corps League Way)

To obtain this award these scouts have met a number of requirements, including completion of eight activity badges, participation in camps, hikes and boy scout activities, the memorization of the Scout Oath, the Scout Law and the commitment to live by these principles. The AOL Ceremony is in essence a “coming of age” ceremony symbolizing that these Cub Scouts are now ready to become Boy Scouts. A new adventure awaits.

Update on Training Awards for Adult Unit Leaders

In 2011, the National Council’s Awards Committee conducted a review of the hundreds of awards presented to Scouts and adults in the BSA. Many recommendations were made to update procedures and the awards themselves.

Among the recommendations was the update of the unit leader training awards requirements and a review of the Cub Scout leader recognition awards. These recommendations have been reviewed by the national volunteer training committee and a task force of unit-level leaders. Some awards have been eliminated and all of the requirements for the remaining awards have been updated.

Many of you already have Citizen in the World, and Environmental Science merit badges. Something to think about if you haven’t completed your merit badge selections.
