2011 Camping Expo and Outdoor Recreation Show

Camping Expo & Outdoor Recreation Show (Sat. March 19, 2011, Alpine Scout Camp, 9 AM – 3 PM)  Camping Expo 2011 Flyer.

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR THE CAMP EXPO!  Go to http://expo.alpinescoutcamp.org to register for the Camp Expo and individual classes.  Pre-Registration is required for all classes.  All classes will be filled first-come, first-served.

This is shaping up to be a far bigger affair than last year’s Camp Expo, and that had over 300 participants.

Professional instructors from R.E.I. and Eastern Mountain Sports will present classes in:
Essentials of Camping Skills
GPS Units Basics,
Climbing Basics
Mountain Biking and Camping.

GNYC staff will present classes in:
Where to Go Camping (Cub Scouts)
Where to Go Camping (Boy Scouts)
Online Summer Camp Registration Process.

T.M.R. Scout Craft Adviser Jake Pontillo will present classes in:
Knots (Basic)
Knots (Intermediate)
Knots (Advanced)

The list of camping equipment vendors on the Midway is long and keeps on growing:
R.E.I.
Eastern Mountain Sports
Ramsey Outdoors
Thunderbird Teepee
The Empire Scout Shop
The latest information on T.M.R., Cub World and the Pouch Cub Day Camp will be available.  This year, senior leadership for all the G.N.Y.C. summer camps will have table space on the Midway so that Unit Leaders will be able to speak to them directly.

The Camp Expo is shaping up to be a major regional Scouting event that we anticipate will grow substantially over the next several years.  Please promote it to everyone that you can, especially to Unit Leaders.

IMPORTANT: We are looking for volunteers to instruct the Where to Go Camping (Cub Scouts) and Where to Go Camping (Boy Scouts) classes.  These are basicly the same classes we taught at the G.N.Y.C. Training Extravaganza in January.  Both classes run according to the followng schedule:

10:40 am – 11:20 am
12:40 am – 1:20 pm
2:40 pm – 3:30 pm

You can volunteer to instruct for 1, 2 or 3 sessions.  These classes are PowerPoint presentations, so all you have to do is go through the presentations, screen by screen.

If you are interested in doing this, please email me at dmalatzky@aol.com.I hope to see all of you at the Camp Expo on March 19, 2011, Alpine Scout Camp.

Yours in Scouting,

David M. Malatzky
Chairman,
Camp Promotions Subcommittee,
G.N.Y.C. Camping Committee
