Staten Island Boy Scout Troop 77 holds car wash to help buy a Scout’s wheel chair to go to camp.
Staten Island N.Y. : Local Troop 77 is gearing up to help one of it’s very own. The troop will be conducting a car wash to help raise funds and awareness to help an eleven year old scout afflicted with MLC. He has a form of leukodystrophy called Megalencephalic Leukoencephalopathy with Subcortical Cysts (MLC). MLC is a neurodegenerative condition that affects communication between the brain and the muscles and can create difficulty learning. It is similar in some ways to MS as both diseases affect the myelin coating surrounding the axons of the neurons.
“I am honored to be associated with such fine young men, who are the best of the best. They saw a need to help a fellow scout, and now we see them rising to the occasion by holding this two day car wash to help a fellow scout”, said
Ash Krishna, the group’s Troop Commitee Chair.
The funds raised will help the troop purchase a special wheelchair that will allow the afflicted scout to participate in summer camp, and provide a donation to those who suffer with MLC.
“It’s just going to be a great way, for Staten Islander’s to help out one of their very own, help a great organization, and at the same time get their vehicles nice and clean”, added Krishna.
