Staten Island Scouting For Food

The annual Staten Island Scouting For Food drive will be hold on Saturday, November 5th 2011.

To participate, a unit will show up at their scheduled supermarket at either 9 AM or 12 PM, and cover a 3 hour shift. During this time, the members of the unit will ask entering shoppers to purchase non-perishable goods to donate upon exiting the store. All goods donated will be picked up by Project Hospitality at the store location, and will be given directly to Staten Island’s needy for the Holiday season.

Any Unit interested in helping out is asked to please contact Greg Mustoe – Gmustoe@bsa-gnyc.org

Operation Christmas Child

My name is Michael Weinberg and I am the Volunteer Coordinator for Operation Christmas Child (OCC) on Staten Island. Mr. Jim Falcone, leader of Pack 36, recommended that I contact you regarding the possibility of sharing the 2011 OCC project.

Last year, Pack 36 and several Girl Scout troops participated in OCC 2010, collecting items and filling shoe boxes for kids in need around the world. For their efforts in this project they earned an OCC patch, as recognized by both the BSA and GSA. Our collection week is November 14th thru the 21st this year, and there are several ways Packs and Troops can get involved.

NEW Tribute in Light Council Shoulder Patch

Fellow Scouters,

‘The City that Never Sleeps’, ‘The Greatest City on Earth’ or ‘The City So Nice, They Named it Twice’ are just a few of the many nicknames we’ve come to know and love for our hometown of New York City. Arguably, the most popular of its many nicknames is “The Big Apple” and the Greater New York Councils is excited to announce a new series of CSPs to be released under that same banner.

Annually, the “Big Apple Series” will celebrate a famous NYC landmark, icon or
anniversary in a limited edition Council Shoulder Patch. Wherever our Scouts may travel, they will always have a picture of the Big Apple to wear proudly on their sleeves.
