The Summit Bechtel Scout Reserve, located near Beckley, West Virginia is the newest National site for scouting adventure and excitement. During the summer of 2013, 45,000 scouts, leaders and staff from all over the country will gather for 9 days of the finest outdoor experiences that scouting has to offer. Whitewater rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, bouldering, mountain biking, skateboarding, BMX, shooting sports zip lines, challenge courses, jamboree trek, arena shows, merit badge opportunities are some of the activities and events in which scouts will participate.
Scouts and male Venturers under 18 are eligible to attend. Scouts must have completed the 6th grade or be at least 12 years old and be a First Class Scout, participate in pre jamboree training, file a jamboree health and medical record and be approved by the unit leader and council jamboree committee. Jamboree troops will be 36 scouts and 4 adult leaders.
The cost for this once in a lifetime experience is $1500, discounted to $1295 if paid by December 31, 2012. The fee includes: National Jamboree fee, transportation to and from the Summit, pre jamboree training, two t-shirts and hat, insignia, a duffle bag and troop equipment. A payment schedule will be available.
