Passing of Lenny Vaccaro’s Mother

Lenny and Jim Vaccaro are long time and active Scouters on Staten Island.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Longtime Great Kills resident Kathleen Vaccaro, 85, a dedicated homemaker, died Sunday at home, of cancer.

Born Kathleen Ippolito in Brooklyn, she was one of 12 children. She lived in Levittown, Pa., and Lynbrook, L.I., before settling in Great Kills with her family in 1963.

Mrs. Vaccaro loved going on vacations with her family to the Catskill Mountains and Atlantic City. She was an avid reader and also liked listening to music and dancing. And she loved to cook for her family.

She was fond of animals and had had many pet dogs and cats.

Mrs. Vaccaro was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, Richmond.

Her first husband of 10 years, Nick Ercole, died in 1960. Her second husband of almost 30 years, Peter Vaccaro, died in 1992. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine Ercole, in 1983.

Surviving are her sons, Steven Ercole and Leonard, Joseph, Edward and James Vaccaro; her daughter, Kathy Ercole; a sister, Trudy Scunziano; 12 grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Casey-McCallum-Rice South Shore Funeral Home, with a mass at 9:45 a.m. in St. Clare’s R.C. Church, both Great Kills. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
