Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund Application – Units

Scout Leaders,

As you all know, many in the Scouting Community have been severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy. After the Hurricane hit, we at GNYC set up a Hurricane Relief Fund to help our Units get back on their feet. While nothing can replace the homes, the memories and the lives lost, we hope our efforts can provide some relief in a time of need.

If your Unit or a Unit you know has lost valuable Scouting items in the Hurricane, please fill out the attached form and email it to Council Program Director Justin Rodstrom at jrodstro@bsamail.org. Applications are due for submission by February 15th, 2013, and funds will be dispersed once all applications have been reviewed.

If you’d like to contribute to the Hurricane Relief Fund, please contact our Registrar at 212-242-1100 and mention “Hurricane Relief Fund” when making your contribution.

OA Transition Team Update

Our Order of the Arrow transition team is excited to announce the new identity of the Greater New York Councils Order of the Arrow Lodge.

Lodge Name

After considering the results of the online opinion poll conducted in December 2012, the members of the transition team voted to name the Greater New York Councils Order of the Arrow Lodge, Kintecoying Lodge #4 on January 6, 2013.  Kintecoying is translated as “Crossroads of Nations”.

Cub Leader Specific Training – 19 January 2013

Who Should Attend?

Cub Scout Leader Specific is a required training for all new Pack leaders -Tiger, Cub Scout (Wolf & Bear), Webelos, Cubmaster, & Pack Committee. This Training covers the topics of den and pack meeting planning, pack finance and management, special activity planning and secrets of successful leaders.. The session includes special breakouts for each leader position. The pre-course requirement is that every person should take “This is Scouting” offered on line at myscouting.org (after you register or sign on – training drop down – e-learning – This is Scouting).

Please join me in welcoming Danice Crump to the GNYC Staff.

Danice will serve as a District Executive in the Aquehonga district reporting directory to Greg Mustoe.   Danice is coming to the Greater New York Councils from the Boys and Girls Club in Elizabeth New Jersey where he has worked since August of 2010 as a site director.   Danice is committed to improving the community he lives in and sees the Boy Scouts of America a leader in improving and expanding opportunities for young people.

He is a graduate of Kean University where he was on the Dean List and majored in Political Science and Business Management Science.

Danice is an avid football fan and follows the Giants he also played club soccer in college.   Painting is one of his favorite hobbies.

Pinewood Derby Rules and Updates – 2013

This year the Aquehonga District will change the format of the District Pinewood Derby Race to conform with the Greater New York Councils method of running the race. We are asking ALL Pack’s to do the same.

Each age group (Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Jr. Webelos and Sr. Webelos) will race in
their own bracket.

Each Pack should send five (5) boys, the first place winner from each of the age
groups in the Pack, to the District Finals on Sunday, February 10, 2013. There will be prizes for the FIRST, SECOND and THIRD place winners of the District Race in each age group.
