Scouts in Parks Day 2013

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Attached is the general flyer for this years Scouts In Parks Day event to be held on April 27th. Please distribute this throughout your districts as we work this year to help clean-up and rebuild areas hard hit by Sandy. Yes that means  most of the work will be in Staten Island, Queens and Brooklyn  so I hope to see many of those units signed up to help out. I also want to see our units from Manhattan either in Brooklyn or Staten Island and our Bronx units to join up with units in Queens  so we can continue to show the City and our region the Scouting is alive and well, and working to better our communities. Please push this event with your units at round table and any other way you can.

Reminder: Internet Advancement Mandatory

Scout Leaders,

As many of you know, Internet Advancement (IA) is now mandatory for all Units in Greater New York Councils. What does this mean for you? Lightening fast, accurate records-keeping, with the ability to update a Scout’s records on the fly. Additionally, Scout Shops in our Region have been instructed to only accept IA reports when Leaders purchase advancement items. This is a significant change, so please keep this in mind next time you visit our Scout Shops.

For full details, please view the attached letter from GNYC Advancement Committee Chairman Fran Harty. To find an IA walkthrough or log on to IA, simply visit and click on the “Advancement” tab.

Thank you!

Addressing a Key Concern with Internet Rechartering

Scout Leaders,

Recently a number of Scout Leaders have had one very similar issue with Internet Rechartering- namely that when accessing the site, Leaders receive a page warning them that the Internet Rechartering page is an “unrecognized page” or another type of warning is presented.

Without getting into the technical, internet jargon, there are two easy solutions. The easiest is to simply press “proceed to site anyway” upon receiving the warning. Your second option is to work with our National Support Center to fix your Internet browser’s settings to work with Internet Rechartering. You can contact them during normal business hours at 972.580.2330.

To access Internet Rechartering, please visit

As always, if you have any questions or concerns with Internet Rechartering, feel free to contact your District Executive.

Pouch Camp – Phase II – 1 February 2013

Dear Members of the Committee,

We are in the process of setting up our next Committee meeting. It will be some time in February . . . keep you posted.

The Trust for Public Land has been working very hard to secure the necessary funding for the protection of Phase II of the camp.

As we still have the deadline of July of this year, it is imperative that we help in this effort by writing letters [preferred], sending emails, making phone calls, personal contacts, with our State elected officials and/or their staff.
