11th ANNUAL SCOUTS IN PARKS DAY
Hurricane Sandy Restoration and Rebuilding Project
Hosts: The Greater NY Councils BSA Committee for Outdoor Ethics and Conservation and the NYC Parks Department
Program Focus: this annual event will focus this year on clean-up and rebuilding parks and other green spaces in areas most affected by Superstorm Sandy. Current locations are:
Leif Ericson Park
Shore front Park (Owls head to Ft. Hamilton)
Eastern and Southern Shorelines (Conference House Park, Wolfes Pond Park, Blue Heron Park, Cedar grove )
Last year’s event featured:
- 1,500 volunteers led by Scouting members, families, and staff, and including other youth-serving organizations such as the Girl Scouts. Close to 5,800 service hours completed in one day.
- 113 Scout units
- 18 locations throughout the five boroughs of NYC
We are inviting our Scouts, other youth groups, corporate partners, and community organizations to join us as “Scouts for a Day” to help us rebuild our green spaces. This is a great opportunity to have fun and make a visible difference to our city’s most devastated neighborhoods. Please join us!
