2014 Philmont Contingent Welcome Letter
Parents & Leaders,
We at GNYC are happy to announce a new opportunity for your Scouts- a chance to join our revitalized Philmont Contingent for 2014! Each year, a select group of Scouts and Leaders are invited to join the Council Contingent excursion to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. This year, we’re opening up registration to all first class Boy Scouts, age 14 or older. We’re also doubling our Contingent to 20 youth and 4 adults, so there’s never been a better chance to send your Scout on this transformative journey! The journey begins with a flight to New Mexico on July 30, 2014, and ends with a return flight on August 12, 2014.
If you are unfamiliar with Philmont, we encourage you to visit Philmontscoutranch.org to learn more. You can also view a promo video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_-DEn32Vx4&feature=youtu.be.
Similar to our National Jamboree Troop, the Philmont Contingent will be led by experienced Scouters from around NYC, and your Scouts can join with them individually. Leading up to Philmont, the Contingent Leadership will conduct two prep-hikes, to ensure each Scout is prepared for the challenging climate and hiking experience of Philmont. We’ll have those dates published on our site in the coming weeks.
The cost to attend of $1,850 includes all transportation fees, meals, and admission to Philmont Scout Ranch. Below is the payment schedule for this trip, designed to reduce the burden on your family leading up to the trip. All checks can be made out to “BSA-GNYC”, “2014 Philmont” in the memo line, mailed to “Greater New York Councils, 350 Fifth Avenue Suite 7820, New York NY 10118-7820”.
