NYC BOY SCOUT BOARD APPROVES PERMANENTLY PRESERVING, PROTECTING STATEN ISLAND “GREENBELT” CAMP

At a special meeting held on December 2nd, the executive board of the Greater New York Councils (GNYC), Boy Scouts of America, unanimously approved permanently preserving and protecting most all remaining parcels of the Scout’s Staten Island Pouch Camp.

“I am extremely proud of the volunteers and staff who have worked so hard for all these years to make this day a reality.  This agreement represents a great future for Staten Island and all of NYC Scouting and Exploring”, said Alair Townsend, GNYC President.

Alpine Scout Camp

Time: 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

Cost is $8 per youth if paid by October 20th.
After October 20th, cost is $10 per youth.
Price Includes: Patch and access to all activities, games and program supplies.
Note: Youth must be age 5 and older. Pumpkins will be given out to pre-registered youth.

 

BALOO and OWLS Training – 16 November 2013

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation and Outdoor Webelos Leader Skills

When: 16 November, 2013
Where: Berlin Lodge, Pouch Camp
Cost: $10 per person

You asked for it and now we have it. One course. One day. Two fantastic learning experiences. Any adult who has an interest in camping and learning outdoor skills can take this course.  Designed for leaders who are in charge of Pack and Webelos overnight activities, this course covers the rules, guidelines, and safety considerations for “Pack Family Camping” and “Webelos Campouts”. It teaches the why and how of Cub Scout camping; planning, equipment, meal preparation, fire safety, stoves, and lanterns; first aid and sanitation; nature hikes, games, and campfire programs. Participants will receive both BALOO and OWLS certification. Local Tour Permits require that a Pack must have a BALOO-certified adult leader attend Cub Scout Campouts and overnight activities.

This is a great course for Tiger, Cub or Webelos parents who have little or no camping experience. It is an entry-level outdoor training with emphasis on outdoor activities and skills pertaining to and geared toward Cub Scout camping and outdoor experiences.

Who Should Attend?

Cub Scout Leader Specific is a required training for all new Pack leaders -Tiger, Cub Scout (Wolf & Bear), Webelos, Cubmaster, & Pack Committee. This Training covers the topics of den and pack meeting planning, pack finance and management, special activity planning and secrets of successful leaders.. The session includes special breakouts for each leader position. The pre-course requirement is that every person should take “This is Scouting” offered on line at myscouting.org (after you register or sign on – training drop down – e-learning – This is Scouting).

September 22- 24, 2013 at Camp Pouch will be your chance to build a solid foundation for your Troop’s program this year!

We are offering Adult and Youth Leader Training during Chol HaMoed Sukkot, including:

For Adults:

*   Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills* (Sunday and Monday)

*   Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Fundamentals* (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday)

*For GNYC Leaders, these courses are mandatory to be registered as a Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster for Units registering after January 1, 2014.
