Shooting Sports Weekend – 2014

Greetings to all,

Yes it’s that time of the year again when Tom and I start planning for our upcoming Shooting Sports Weekends. To help us in our planning process we’re asking units that have participated in the past, as well as units that have expressed an interest in joining us in 2014, to please complete the attached “Commitment Form” and return same to both Tom and I by November 15, 2013.

Normandy Camporee – April 2014

Scouts age 14-20, you have an opportunity to join a contingent of Scouts from the Greater New York Councils on a trip to Normandy, France, in April of 2014.

This Camporee will mark the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day invasion on the shores of Normandy.

Planning for this trip includes visiting London and Paris, as well as Normandy.

Openings are still available for youth, ages 14-20, registered in GNYC.

Online Registration Opens for 2014 G.N.Y.C. Camp Promotions Orientation/Recognition Banquet

Online registration is now open for the 2014 G.N.Y.C. Camp Promotions Orientation/Camp Promotions Recognition Banquet at Alpine Scout Camp, Saturday, January 4, 2014.  The CPO runs from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm and the Banquet from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.

We’re excited to announce the 2014 Training Extravaganza, taking place on Saturday, January 11th at Borough of Manhattan Community College (199 Chambers Street, New York, NY).

This year’s event will feature must-have trainings, camp skills, and ideas to bring your Pack, Troop or Crew to the next level of program- all led by a dedicated volunteer staff!

2014 Training Extravaganza

NYC BOY SCOUT BOARD APPROVES PERMANENTLY PRESERVING, PROTECTING STATEN ISLAND “GREENBELT” CAMP

At a special meeting held on December 2nd, the executive board of the Greater New York Councils (GNYC), Boy Scouts of America, unanimously approved permanently preserving and protecting most all remaining parcels of the Scout’s Staten Island Pouch Camp.

“I am extremely proud of the volunteers and staff who have worked so hard for all these years to make this day a reality.  This agreement represents a great future for Staten Island and all of NYC Scouting and Exploring”, said Alair Townsend, GNYC President.

NER Area 2 Venturing Communication

The NER Area 2 Venturing VOA had a very successful planning weekend on Sep 13-15.  The VOA developed the goals for our Area Venturing, established our calendar, put together our “Save the Date” flyer for our Apex along with our first meeting and did some teambuilding as well.  All four officers and three advisors attended.

I have attached the Schedule, an introduction of our officers and our Goals/Strategies, as well as a few other items.
