The 25th Annual NERJCoS Conference

The 25th Annual NERJCoS Conference will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Kellman Brown Academy, 1007 Laurel Oak Road, Voorhees, NJ 08043. The academy is located in Voorhees, NJ about 4 miles (but only one turn) off of I-295, Exit 32 and between Exits 3 & 4 of the NJ Turnpike.

The fee is only $36 and includes all materials, a handsome patch, morning snack and a Kosher luncheon. This event is an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas with others who also want to increase Jewish participation in Scouting and we invite you and others from your council to attend.

Summer of Service INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY- Washington, DC

The Institute on Philanthropy and Voluntary Service, an academic internship program focused on the nonprofit sector, is accepting applications for summer 2012 and is ideal for Scouts active in service and volunteerism on their campuses and in the community.

Students who complete their application by February 7 will be considered for our Priority Deadline, receiving priority consideration for admission and scholarships. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the final deadline of March 7.

We’re Moving – The Greater New York Councils

The Greater New York Councils, Boy Scouts of America will be moving its offices to suite 7820 located on the 78th floor of the Empire State Building effective January 30, 2012.

As a part of the Boy Scouts Lease with the Empire State Building, the building had a relocation option they executed this past fall forcing the council into other space within the building. In cooperation with the building the Boy Scouts have been able to reduce the total office space and the cost associated with the lease by 30%.

SI Families Can Be In An NPR Video – 28 January 2012

SI Families – Wanna be in a fun video?!!! NPR is filming Staten Island OutLOUD as we all “Paint Tom’s Fence” on Sat, Jan 28 at 1:30pm at Richmondtown branch NY Public Library, 200 Clarke Ave, SINY 10306 (corner Amber St). The video will be on NPR.org & audio on their radio broadcast!

We’re celebrating Mark Twain, Tom Sawyer & Staten Island – a waterfront town that’s a lot like Hannibal Missouri. We’ll have a picket fence for everyone to decorate. We won’t slap wet paint on Tom Sawyer’s fence – Instead, you can hang small drawings, poems, Twain quotes, or images of favorite Island scenes on the fence. So you won’t get paint on your shoes.

Firearms Instructor Weekend – 2012

Greetings to all,

While our April 13-15, 2012 weekend is billed as a “Firearms Instructor Weekend,” we plan on accomplishing more than that.

In addition to the instructor training classes this weekend will give us some time to prep for our “Shooting Sports Weekend” in May.

Also, Tom and I would like to take an hour or so on Saturday night (after dinner) and have a meeting of the “Shooting Sports Committee.”
