GNYC Raft-O-Ree! – 19-21 September 2014

This coming September 19-21 go rafting down the Delaware River as part of the GNYC Raft-O-Ree!

The 2014 Raft-o-ree is a Council sponsored activity under the direction of the Council Activities Committee, with a goal to host a target of ~200 attendees for the weekend.  Attendees will raft the Delaware River from Skinners Falls to TMR Landing, with a stop for lunch at the half way point of Narrowsburg.  Transportation and rafting will be provided by Landers River Trips.  Accommodations for campers will be at Camp Keowa.  A Saturday evening campfire show will provide awards and fellowship for attendees.

BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) Training – 3 May 2014

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation

When: 3 May 2014, 8:00AM to 4:00PM
Where: Berlin Lodge, Pouch Camp
1465 Manor Road, Staten Island, NY 10314
Cost: $10 per person

Any adult who has an interest in camping and learning outdoor skills can take this course. Designed for leaders who are in charge of Pack and Webelos overnight activities, this course covers the rules, guidelines, and safety considerations for “Pack Family Camping” and “Webelos Campouts”. It teaches the why and how of Cub Scout camping; planning, equipment, meal preparation, fire safety, stoves, and lanterns; first aid and sanitation; nature hikes, games, and campfire programs. Participants will receive BALOO certification. Local Tour Permits require that a Pack must have a BALOO-certified adult leader attend Cub Scout Campouts and overnight activities.

Aquehonga Webelos-o-Ree – Oct 17-19 2014

The Aquehonga District Webelos-o-Ree, for Senior Webelos, will be held October 17 to 19, 2014.

Campmaster Training – Alpine – 2014

Greetings

Registration is open for any Registered Adult Scouter who is interested in Becoming a GNYC Campmaster.

The Campmaster Training session will be held at Camp Alpine Saturday March 15th from 9 AM – 2 PM.

You must be a BSA registered adult with current YPT status to request a Campmaster assignment.

On Saturday, March 8th, 2014, GNYC will be having its 6th Annual Camping Expo in Alpine Scout Camp.

We are happy to have representation from our National High Adventure Bases. (Northern Tier, Philmont, and our newest adventure base, The Summit in West Virginia). Please come out and support the event while having a great opportunity to learn and become empowered! Our goal is to get units to spice up their camping programs and benefit from what GNYC has to offer.

We at GNYC are happy to announce a new opportunity for your Scouts- a chance to join our revitalized Philmont Contingent for 2014! Each year, a select group of Scouts and Leaders are invited to join the Council Contingent excursion to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. This year, we’re opening up registration to all first class Boy Scouts, age 14 or older. We’re also doubling our Contingent to 20 youth and 4 adults, so there’s never been a better chance to send your Scout on this transformative journey! The journey begins with a flight to New Mexico on July 30, 2014, and ends with a return flight on August 12, 2014.
